Although I’ve been involved in all kinds of sports like basketball, soccer, and tennis since I was a little kid, I’ve never been seriously considered to be athletic or really good at in any sports by my family members or close friends. Similarly, I had never expected that I would earn my black belt in karate or other martial art styles one day. But for an ordinary guy like me, I earned my black belt in American Karate this September after more than three years of training. Here, I just wanted to share with you my personal experience, in the hope of encouraging you to take a step forward in earning your black belt in karate or any other martial art of your own interest.
How did I start?
My wife Ting started her karate training in 2014 at a local American Karate school close to her work place. However, that wasn’t a pleasant period of time in our marriage, because we had several occasions of argument about it. This school is about 40 miles from our house, and they hold adult classes at 8 pm. When Ting’s class was over, it would take almost one hour before she could arrive home at about 10:30 pm.
